夏の満員電車はにおうのに、世界と比べると、日本人の体臭は少ないといわれます。それはなぜでしょうか？
毎日お風呂に入るから？ それとも、肉より魚や野菜を食べてきたから？
実は、においの差を解く手がかりは、脇ではなく耳の中に隠れていました。耳あかのタイプと、体のにおいには、意外なつながりがあるのです。
今回は、耳あかを調べた記録、縄文人の骨に残る遺伝子、千年前の医学書をたよりに、日本人の体臭の少なさという謎をひも解きます。
