In a first-of-its-kind move, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has successfully auctioned a seized private aircraft, marking a historic milestone in India's fight against financial crime. The Hawker 800A business jet was sold for ₹3 crore through the government-owned MSTC e-auction platform after being seized in connection with crime linked to Hyderabad-based company.
The aircraft had been parked at Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Airport since it was seized during an ED search operation in March 2025. After receiving legal approval from the adjudicating authority under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), the agency conducted the auction on July 1, 2026, making it the first time the ED has sold a confiscated aircraft through a transparent public auction process.
This auction is being described as a landmark moment, how the ED is using asset recovery to compensate victims, the legal process behind selling seized property, and what this case could mean for future investigations involving luxury assets such as private jets, yachts, and high-value vehicles.
