Boston taxpayers deserve answers about how their money is being spent, and they shouldn’t be asked to pay even more while the city makes it increasingly expensive to live, work, and build here.
MassFiscal recently spoke with Boston City Councilor Ed Flynn about several of the major fiscal challenges facing the city.
Flynn discussed the Inspector General’s findings that procurement failures at Boston Public Schools wasted at least 7,261 in taxpayer money, calling for an independent investigation and saying a referral to Attorney General Andrea Campbell is appropriate and necessary.
He also defended Proposition 2½, arguing that Boston has a spending problem and that this is not the time to raise taxes on businesses.
On development, Flynn said Boston’s BERDO climate regulations are making construction, renovations, apartments, and condo projects more expensive, and suggested reducing or temporarily eliminating those regulations to help get development moving again.
