Inclusion should be earned—not forced. When schools push special ed students into general ed before they’re ready, everyone loses. Teachers lose control. Classrooms lose structure. And neurotypical kids—the ones following the rules—get ignored.
This isn’t about being anti-inclusion. It’s about being honest. Classrooms are not therapy centers. Gen ed isn’t a test zone. And not every IEP should guarantee automatic access to a general ed room—especially when safety and learning are at stake.
We need to stop pretending this system is working. It’s not. It’s traumatizing the majority of students while bending over backwards for the few who aren’t ready.
