Rest in Peace Ed White
On June 3rd 1965 an astronaut floated out of his spacecraft 160 kilometers above Earth and refused to come back in.
This is his story.

Ed White became the first American to walk in space during the Gemini 4 mission. He had a 25 foot tether, a handheld jet gun, and nothing else between him and the universe. The moment he got outside he said it was the greatest experience of his life — and the most natural feeling he had ever had.
When NASA told him to come back in he ignored them. His crewmate Jim McDivitt called him 40 times in 13 minutes before he responded. Even then White stalled — taking 17 photographs to buy himself extra time. He stayed outside for 23 minutes. Almost double what was planned.
When he finally came back inside he said this —
"I'm coming back in. And it's the saddest moment of my life."
Less than two years later Ed White died in the Apollo 1 launchpad fire on January 27th 1967 — before he ever got the chance to go back.
Before his first flight he said — "There's a great deal of pride in a first flight."
He was right. And he lived every second of it.
