A large number of top colleges are now filling over half their class through Early Decision.
Columbia, Johns Hopkins, Northwestern, Penn — all above 50%.
Brown and Vanderbilt — similar.
WashU and Emory — even higher.By the time Regular Decision opens, a big portion of seats is already gone.
That means RD acceptance rates are much lower than the overall numbers you see.Applying to more colleges doesn’t automatically multiply your chances.
Each college is its own game.If you have a school you’re willing to commit to, ED can be a meaningful advantage — not because the bar is lower, but because you’re competing for a larger share of seats.
If your list doesn’t account for this, you’re making the process harder than it needs to be.
